Dental implants, also known as an endosseous implants or fixtures, are surgical components that interface with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. Implants are used not only for proper dental function but can serve a cosmetic purpose as well.
