Like most Americans you probably go to the dentist every 6 months. Every other visit you will get X-rays done, but each time you leave it is with a new toothbrush, some floss and a reminder to come again in 6 months. You may have asked yourself; is seeing the dentist twice a year really necessary?
We believe it is one of the most important things you can do for your oral and overall health. As the old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Scraping and polishing teeth. Flossing. X-Rays. These familiar activities are the cornerstone of any dental visit, but we do so much more for your health than just those things.
Are your gums healthy?
During your exam we’ll check the health of your gums. Are they fresh and pink? Are they red, swollen and bleed easily? IF so, you may be suffering from gingivitis. With your regular checkups, we can catch it early and provide a plan of action to reduce the swelling and ultimately return your gums to a healthy state.
Oral Cancers and other health issues
We do a thorough exam of your tongue and cheeks for types of oral cancer. We’ll also check your head, neck and lymph nodes to see if anything is out of the ordinary, and give you an early warning if we see any indications of diabetes, vitamin deficiencies or muscular conditions.
Underbite or Overbite
We’ll check to see if your teeth align properly or if you are suffering from an overbite or underbite. These can lead to serious conditions and by coming in on a regular basis we can track to see if it may be getting worse. This also allows us to recommend any orthodontic treatments like clear aligners or a program like Straight Smiles Now to help correct issues at an early stage.
Cracks and fillings
Do you chew ice? Of course you do, we all chew ice. Ice and many other things that stress and damage teeth, fillings, orthodontic work, crowns and everything else in our mouth. Don’t underestimate the effects that chewing hard materials can have on the condition of your mouth. With a regular visit we can catch problems sooner than later and perform more affordable maintenance rather than budget busting repairs.
We’re here to help you have the healthiest, happiest life you can live. Good health starts with what goes in the body. If the eyes are the window to the soul, the mouth is the door to your overall health!
